Privacy policy
Build On Campus runs hands-on technology build days on college campuses. This policy explains what information we collect through buildoncampus.com and at our events, how we use it, who we share it with, and how we protect it. Build On Campus is operated by Adjacent Markets, LLC, doing business as Build On Campus. You can reach us at hello@buildoncampus.com.
What we collect
We collect what you give us through the forms on this site, what our payment provider confirms to us, and a small amount of technical information collected automatically.
- Event sign-up (homepage). Your name, email address, city and state, so we can tell you when an event is coming to your area.
- Company and college interest forms. Your name, work email, organization, role, and whatever you tell us in the message fields.
- Event registration. Your name, email address and phone number (optional), your answers to the optional questions (experience with AI tools, what brings you, how you heard about the event), a promo code if you use one, and your confirmations: that you are 18 or older, that you understand photos and video are taken, and whether you want updates from the technology partners at the event.
- Payment. Paid tickets are handled by Stripe. Stripe tells us that a payment succeeded, the amount, and the name and email address you gave at checkout. Card numbers go directly to Stripe. We never see or store them.
- Collected automatically. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used: pages visited, approximate location derived from your IP address, and device and browser type. It uses cookies or similar identifiers. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, time and page requested) for a short period for security. Fonts load from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when the page loads.
How we use it
- To run the event you registered for: check-in, room and table planning, catering counts, and the confirmation and day-of emails we send you.
- To answer a request you sent through a form.
- To tell you about events near you, if you signed up for that.
- To process and confirm payment, and to prevent duplicate or fraudulent registrations.
- To understand how the site is used and improve it.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Who we share it with, and how
- Service providers working for us. Stripe (payments), Vercel (website hosting), Google (analytics and fonts), and Digital Tune Up (the contact and registration system we use to keep our lists and send event emails). Data moves to them over encrypted connections, and they may use it only to provide their service to us.
- The host campus. For an event hosted on a campus, we share the registration list for that event with the host campus for check-in, room planning and safety. That list includes names, email addresses and, where relevant, whether a registrant is a student, faculty or staff member of that campus. The host campus can ask us to export or delete the attendee data for its event at any time.
- Technology partners, only if you ask. If you tick the box on the registration form asking for updates from the technology partners at the event, we share your name and email address with the companies presenting at that event. If you leave the box unticked, nothing is shared with them. You can withdraw at any time by emailing us.
- When the law requires it. We will disclose information if we are legally required to, or to protect the safety of people at an event.
Photos and video
Our events are photographed and recorded. We say so on the registration form, and you confirm you understand it when you register. Photos and video may be used by Build On Campus and the host campus in future promotional materials. If you would rather not appear, tell a member of our team on the day and we will do our best to keep you out of frame.
Cookies and analytics
The only cookies we set come from Google Analytics. Registration and payment work without them. You can block cookies in your browser settings or install Google's analytics opt-out browser add-on; the site will still work.
How we protect it
The whole site runs over HTTPS. Payment details go straight to Stripe and never touch our systems. Access to registration and contact data is limited to the Build On Campus team and the service providers named above, each of which has its own security program. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we will notify you as the law requires.
How long we keep it
We keep event registration records for the event and for follow-up afterwards, and payment records for as long as tax and accounting rules require. We keep sign-up and interest-form records until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us at any time to see the information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop sending you email. Write to hello@buildoncampus.com from the address you registered with, and we will respond within 45 days. We will not treat you differently for making a request. California residents have these rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, and the same process applies.
Age
Our events and this site are for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have, email us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date. Material changes that affect registered attendees will also be sent by email.
